Relex Smile

ReLEx SMILE laser is the newest 3rd generation laser refraction surgery. While a large incision is required for laser application in LASIK, this incision is as low as 2 mm in ReLEx SMILE. In ReLEx SMILE treatment, which is a revolution in bladeless laser treatments and gives very good results especially in high myopia, all surgical steps are performed with a single laser and without a blade.

Compared to the Femto LASIK method, it is performed in the form of disc removal (lenticule) with a much smaller incision. In this way, high-numbered patients also have advantages such as safe treatment, less stinging, burning, faster recovery and less dry eye problems. ReLEx SMILE laser surgery is performed using Carl Zeiss Meditec’s patented VisuMax femtosecond laser and is FDA approved. In the SMILE procedure, the surgeon uses a femtosecond laser to create a small, lens-shaped tissue (lenticule) in the cornea. Then, a small arc-shaped incision is made on the corneal surface with the same laser, and the surgeon removes the lenticule from this incision. When the tiny lenticule is removed, the shape of the cornea is changed by correcting myopia. The corneal incision heals in a few days without stitches and sharp vision occurs very quickly.

Who Are ReLEx SMILE Laser Candidates?

If you have an active lifestyle or job, SMILE may be a better option for you than LASIK or similar procedures. If you are highly active, you may accidentally dislocate the corneal flap, causing problems. Since SMILE does not involve cutting a flap like LASIK in the cornea, complications that may occur after flap creation are also disabled. For this reason, the ReLex SMILE Laser method is the most suitable operation method for people with active lifestyles and professional athletes.

To Whom Can ReLEx SMILE Laser Be Applied?

• You Must Be 18 Years Or Older.

• Your Eye Numbers Should Not Have Changed in the Last Year.

• Your myopia should be between -1.00 and -10.00 degrees, and your astigmatism should not be greater than -5.00 degrees.

• Your General Eye and Corneal Health Condition should be Appropriate.

• You Need to Have Realistic Expectations of What ReLEx SMILE Can or Cannot Do for You.

Who can not apply ReLEx SMILE Laser?

 • Patients with Changing Numbers.

• Hypermetropia Patients (Hypermetropia Treatment Studies with SMILE Are Continuing; It Is Considered That It Can Be Applied To Hypermetropia Patients In The Future.)

• Those Under 18.

• Presence of Skin or Other Diseases That May Affect Healing.

• Excessive Scar or Keloid Formation.

• Those With Corneal Degeneration Or Disease.

• Those with Advanced Glaucoma. • Those with a Cataract Affecting Vision.

• Uncontrolled Diabetes.

• Those with a History of Certain Eye Infections.

• Those During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding. What You Will Experience During ReLEx SMILE LaserAs a result of a very detailed eye examination and tests before the operation, it should be evaluated whether your eye structure is suitable for SMILE surgery.

During the surgery, there is a laser procedure that takes about 27 seconds. After placing a vacuum ring that prevents you from moving your eyes, laser is applied and your doctor removes the part created in the cornea through an incision of only 2 mm. It is recommended to rest on the remaining day after the surgery. Watering, glare in the lights and sensitivity in the eyes, which will last all day, are completely normal and are reduced with the drops used.

What are the Benefits of ReLEx SMILE Laser?

Since a large incision is not created to create a corneal flap, complications related to flap tissue are not expected. Complications such as flap folding and non-setting are not expected immediately after the surgery. In the long term, the risk of dislocation of the valve in any trauma to the eye is eliminated.Since a lesser corneal incision is created, the number of cut nerves is less and the dry eye due to loss of sensation is reduced to minimal levels.

As a result of the procedure, the patient regains visual comfort. Since SMILE can be used in high vision defects (up to 10 degrees in myopia, 5 degrees in astigmatism), it provides a high vision quality. In patients above these grades, patient satisfaction will be provided as the grade will decrease again after the procedure.
